Editorial and graphic design with a strong bias towards concept and typography.

Our designs set out from the assignment’s individual characteristics. Each new project poses a new question that demands a new answer. Our approach is critical and exploratory, which leads to distinctive results that are highly diverse. No single design is the same.

Coppens Alberts is an Amsterdam-based design studio established by Christine Alberts (CH) and Patrick Coppens (NL).

Bartholomeus van der Helst

Thé standard work on this 17th century Dutch portrait painter. Judith van Gent graduated on her dissertation on this artist. The design of the book Bartholomeus van der Helst. Een studie naar zijn leven en werk builds on the typology of this genre book. Typography, layout and finish make this book a contemporary suit for this historical heritage. We chose the typeface Bembo for it's 'clean' quality. By using him semi-bold the pages are compelling and iconic. The color reproductions are presented in separate sections independently. An easy to navigate through catalog section, printed in black and white, gives an overview of the oeuvre. This sturdy book immediately shows who you are dealing with.
