Coppens Alberts is an Amsterdam-based design studio that focuses on editorial and graphic design for printed and digital media – books, identities, campaigns, websites.

Our designs set out from the assignment’s individual characteristics. Each new project poses a new question that demands a novel answer. Our approach is critical and exploratory, which leads to distinctive results that are highly diverse. No single design is the same.

Coppens Alberts was established by Christine Alberts (CH) and Patrick Coppens (NL).

Clients include PostNL, WBooks, Trancity, Uitgeverij d'jonge Hond, Museum De Paviljoens, Studio Piet Paris, Arnhem Mode Biennale, the Kröller-Müller Museum, SUN Publishers, NAi Publishers, Terra Lannoo, Kunsthal Rotterdam, Scholten & Baijings, Oomen Architecten, SUB office, de Architecten Cie, ArtEZ Institute of the Arts and Meeuwig & Zn.

Arnhem Mode Biennale

Arnhem Mode Biennale and it's dotted type
The make up of the type being separate dots, the typography lent itself for multiple purposes. Laser techniques were used on the stationary creating the effect of transparency and tangibility. Likewise, the title of the exhibition was made up of individual round, white stickers on a dark outside wall and the exhibition texts were created by black pins in white polystyrene foam blocks. The invitations for the opening of the Biennale, also designed by Coppens & Alberts, were printed on ribbon.

Commissioned by Stichting Arnhem Mode Biënnale, 2005

Piet Paris Fashion Illustrations

A dialogue between disciplines
A graphic and editorial book design for fashion illustrator Piet Paris. 115 illustrations printed on bright-white mc paper devided over 11 chapters. Sections of thin white pages seperate the chapters. The cover of the book and the title pages are printed with the graphic elements we designed, that by now have become the signature trademarks of the corporate identity of Studio Piet Paris. This book does not only give an overview of 20 years of illustration, but it is also a statement in the development of the office.

P
iet Paris. Fashion Illustrations belongs to the selection of The Best Dutch Book Designs 2010.

Book, 160 pages, 23.5 x 33 cm, bound. Commissioned by d’Jonge Hond and Studio Piet Paris, 2010.
